TRADE SECRETS FAQ
CHEMISTRY BEHIND BEAUTIFUL, MANAGEABLE HAIR - pH!
We educate our clients on WHY we recommended using ONLY SALON PROFESSIONAL shampoos, conditioners and styling products on your hair. Goldwell, Pureology, Brazilian Blowout are all great options that we carry at the salon. The difference between professional shampoo and conditioners is that (unless labeled otherwise) they must be pH balanced. Why is that important you may ask? It affects the balance of hair and scalp when means they'll be less prone to oilyness and irritation, hair will be stronger, less frizzy, softer, shiny and hydrated. Client's notice immediately that hair will immediately be more manageable and easier to style after just one use of our professional shampoo and conditioner- Less hair stress, less hair breakage, healthier hair- Guaranteed.
Salon products are also concentrated, higher quality ingredients and therefore reduce buildup on you hair so you use less, save money AND have beautiful results! Your hair, skin and nails are naturally at pH level 4.5 - 5.5. Non-professional products that are NOT regulated or formulated to be pH balanced and can be 10 to 10,000 times stronger and more drying and also contain cheap, waxy ingredients that buildup onto the hair cuticle. This is most often the cause of problem scalp and hair such as: oily scalp, dry, brittle hair, hair that is frizzy, color that fades quickly, hair that feels limp and heavy, having to switch shampoo and conditioner often due to buildup, and waxy buildup from cheap ingredients that coat and stick to the hair. If the products say 'gentle' or 'sulfate-free' or 'color-safe', be aware this does NOT mean they're good or high quality and they will still cause undesirable results.
HAIRCUT & SPLIT ENDS
SPLIT END DAMAGED HAIR CUTICLE UNDER MICROSCOPE
BREAK THE CYCLE OF HAIR DAMAGE WITH GREAT HAIR CARE AND CUTS!
The most important reason is to remove splits and damage caused by bleaching, coloring, flat irons, curling irons, old blow-dryers, sun, poor quality haircare products, etc. is to ensure healthy hair. Hair is hardened keratin and requires care and moisture to maintain optimal health and shine. Once spit ends occur, if they are not removed promptly, they will peel up the hair cuticle (like string cheese) and thus become shorter, broken, thin, damaged, frizzy hair. Leaving these damaged ends will enable this "peeling" and "breaking off" cycle to continue until the damage is cut off.
From the many new clients I meet, one of the top complaints is "my hair doesn't grow." Hair grows 1/2 inch a month (on average) and 99% of the time it not that their hair isn't growing, its that its breaking. Some clients go months or even years without a good haircut and don't understand that their hair its not getting longer, fuller, and healthier due to the fact they only occasionally trim a small amount of damaged hair off. Most clients don't want to remove the significantly damaged areas because they don't want to lose the length; But unfortunately, this decision to keep the length and thus damaged hair, only continues the breakage cycle and their hair never becomes longer, fuller, healthier. If damage remains, it will continues to cause havoc. The solution is to get frequent haircuts to remove as much damage as possible. Also it is highly recommended to remove and reduce the things in your hair routine that is causing the damage to begin with. Examples would be overprocessing with bleach/chemicals, excessive heat from flat ironing or curling irons, .
We recommend Brazilian Blowout hair strengthening treatment and also Olaplex & K18 treatment added in for weekly homecare repair to stop the breakage and to hydrate the hair so it will be stronger, less frizzy, softer, shiny and hydrated.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I WASH MY HAIR?
THE FREQUENCY IS NOT THE SAME FOR EVERYONE, BUT- USING SALON PROFESSIONAL SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER THAT WORKS WITH YOUR HAIR TYPE IS A MUST. IN GENERAL, ITS RECOMMENDED TO WASH YOUR HAIR EVERY 2-4 DAYS. FOR SOME THAT ARE ACTIVE OR HAVE VERY FINE HAIR, THAT MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE IN WHICH CASE EVERY OTHER DAY WOULD BE GREAT. DAILY SHAMPOOING CAN BE HARD ON THE HAIR AND SCALP BECAUSE IT CONSTANTLY REMOVES ALL THE NATURAL OILS THAT NATURALLY MOISTURIZE THE HAIR AND SCALP. ALSO IF YOUR HAIR IS COLORED, WASHING LESS WITH HELP PREVENT FADING.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CUT MY HAIR?
HAIR GROWS APPROX 1/2 INCH PER MONTH. IF YOU'RE HAIR IS DAMAGED AND/OR IF YOU USE HOT TOOLS AND BLOWDRY REGULARLY THEN I WOULD RECOMMEND TO TRIM HAIR EVERY 4-6 WEEKS. SOME PEOPLE WHO DON'T COLOR, USE HOT TOOLS OR AREN'T PRONE TO SPLIT ENDS MAY GO 8-12 WEEKS.
MY HAIR ISN'T GETTING LONGER, BUT I ALWAYS HAVE ROOTS- WHATS GOING ON?
YOUR HAIR IS LIKELY BREAKING AND HAS SPLIT ENDS. EVEN IF YOU GO IN FOR REGULAR CUTS, IF YOU HAVE NOT REMOVED ALL THE SPLIT ENDS THE HAIR WILL CONTINUALLY PEEL UP THE HAIR SHAFT AND BREAK. ITS IMPORTANT TO REMOVE AS MANY SPLIT ENDS AND BREAKAGE AS POSSIBLE SO THE HAIR CUTICLE REMAINS STRONG AND HEALTHY. ASK YOUR STYLIST ABOUT TREATMENT AND PRODUCTS THAT WILL STOP BREAKAGE AND HELP YOU MEET YOUR HAIR GOALS.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I COLOR MY HAIR?
THIS VARIES FROM PERON TO PERSON, BUT IN GENERAL IT IS SAFE TO COLOR YOUR HAIR FREQUENTLY AS LONG AS YOUR NOT OVER-PROCESSING AND OVERLAPPING NEW COLOR ONTO PREVIOUSLY COLORED HAIR TIME AND TIME AGAIN. IF YOU ARE TRYING TO EXTEND YOUR COLOR LONGER, TELL YOUR STYLIST SO THEY CAN MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS.
WHY CAN'T I TONE OUT THE BRASSY ORANGE OUT OF MY HAIR? IT KEEPS COMING BACK!
WHEN HAIR IS LIGHTENED IT REVEALS WHATS CALLED "UNDERLYING PIGMENT". THIS PIGMENT CAN NOT BE MADE LIGHTER WITH COLOR OR TONER. TONERS ACT LIKE A "VEIL" OF COLOR; THEY ARE NOT A BLANKET. IF YOU HAVE ORANGE, BRASSY HIGHLIGHTS THEN THE COLOR WILL NEED TO BE RE-PROCESSED USING BLEACH TO LIGHTEN THE COLOR FURTHER, LIFTING IT OUT OF ORANGE AND TO A PALE, LIGHT YELLOW. ONCE ITS REACHED A LEVEL OF LIGHTNESS THAT NO LONGER APPEARS ORANGE, IT CAN BE TONED AND RESULTS WILL LAST UP TO 6 WEEKS.
WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HIGHLIGHTS AND LOWLIGHTS?
LOWLIGHTS ARE COMMONLY REQUESTED TO ADD DEPTH AND ARE DARKER THAN YOUR EXISTING COLOR. HIGHLIGHTS ADD LIGHTNESS AND BRIGHTNESS TO YOUR COLOR, COMMONLY PLACED AROUND YOUR FACE FOR FACE FRAMING. BOTH CAN BE ADDED TO CREATE DIMENSIONAL COLOR.
HOW CAN I PROTECT MY HAIR AGAINST CHLORINE?
WET HAIR PRIOR TO SWIMMING AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER SWIMMING. THIS WILL HELP REDUCE HOW MUCH CHLORINE GETS ABSORBED INTO THE HAIR. IF YOU DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO A FRESH WATER SHOWER, YOU CAN BRING A WATER BOTTLE AND WET HAIR DOWN BEFORE AND AFTER TO DILUTE THE CHLORINE. MAKE SURE TO HAVE A DEEP CONDITIONER OR HAIR MASK TO MOISTURIZE THE CUTICLE SO IT DOESN'T GET DRY.
HOW CAN I KEEP MY CURLS BUT NOT HAVE FRIZZ?
IN HIGH HUMIDITY, FRIZZ IS INEVITABLE. YOUR BEST BET WOULD BE TO DO A KERATIN TREATMENT TO HELP FORTIFY THE HAIR CUTICLE SO THAT IT IS UNABLE TO FRIZZ AND PUFF OFF. PRODUCTS CAN HELP, BUT IF YOU WANT WASH AND GO, A KERATIN IS THE BEST AND LONGEST LASTING WAY TO DEFEAT FRIZZ FOR WEEKS AT A TIME.
HOW TO PREVENT MY COLOR FROM FADING IN THE SUN?
ALL HAIR COLOR FADES AND THE SUN MAKES IT FADE FASTER. WEARING A HAT IS OFTEN NOT AN OPTION AND THUS WASHING LESS, WASHING IN COOLER WATER, AND USING A HAIR SUNSCREEN SPF ARE HELPFUL. IF COLOR IS FADING MORE THAN WHAT YOU LIKE, YOU CAN REQUEST YOUR STYLIST GO 1/2 TO 1 SHADE DARKER. WHEN YOU SHAMPOO, SHAMPOO ONLY THE ROOTS/SCALP WHERE THE OIL IS, DO NOT APPLY IT TO ENTIRE HEAD AS OVER TIME THIS CAN WASH AWAY THE COLOR MOLECULES.
IF YOU NEED HELP DECIDING WHAT TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR, TEXT OR EMAIL A PHOTO OF YOURSELF ALONG WITH A PHOTO OF THE CUT OR COLOR THAT YOU'D LIKE TO HAVE. IF YOU'RE UNSURE WHAT YOU WANT TO COME IN FOR, WE ARE HAPPY TO MAKE SUGGESTIONS!
